Heroic Shields by Mbella Sonne Dipoka

    Updated:October 9, 20251 Min Read

    The sun is rising.
In their nakedness the karoos will all be hot again
But you will shiver in spite of it
In the memory of trekkers who left you there
To be feverish in the shadows of days of doubt
And the nightmare of Great Chaka
Still alive in your eternal Zulu dream.

    Last night, anguished tyrant
You dream of the hero whose people you fear
And of the charging of heroic shields
Today you tremble, voor trekker, staring at the vaal
And the diamonds of your heart.
